What is a scorpion?Scorpions, creatures of the arthropods, are very interesting creatures. They have eight legs as well as a tail containing dangerous venom. There a over two-thousand species which can be found throughout six of the seven continents. All scorpions are venomous and are able to immobilize prey, normally scorpions feed on insects. The venom is mainly used in cases of self defense and whether or not the scorpion is young does not matter, it can still attack you using the same amount of venom as an adult scorpion could.
Nervous system of a scorpion |
The nervous system of a scorpion is a little more complex than that of a starfish. It has cranial nerves running through through the base of the skull. It has an olfactory nerve located at the top of the head relaying sensory data to the brain. It contains an optic nerve which is responsible for sending visual information from the retina to the visual centers of the brain. The scorpion also has a spinal nerve which has mixed functions. The spinal nerve carries motor sensory and automatic signals between the spinal cord and the body.
