Horse's Nervous SystemThe Horse has three separate nervous systems: central , peripheral and autonomic. Each system works through the brain, the spinal cord, and both the sensory and motor nerves of the horse. Even though, there are three separate groups, they all work together for the same purpose.
Autonomic Nervous System
The Autonomic Nervous system works with the peripheral nervous system too. The autonomic system has two parts to it, Sympathetic and Parasympathetic. The Sympathetic system helps the horse by alerting it when it may be in danger. This system sends messages to the brain so that the horse could be prepared for what could happen to them. The Parasympathetic system acts on the horse when it is resting. This system helps the blood flow of the horse increase. |
